Before you read on , as many will know a few months ago i made the transfer from my old blog home to here while the sites getting some love, i have taken far to long to bring all the review etc over so i promise i will get on it soon , until then here is and oldy for those who are new. Also stick around for the next round of studio shots - im waiting for the a-ok to post my most recent studio shoots collection addition “S23 Productions”. A stunning and beautiful space cant wait to share the photos. Also i will have another studio to share in the next week ..very excited………..anyone who is into there hiphop be sure to swing by the Lotek and rebel hi fi launch at the Northcote social club it will be a great show , pictures to come for those who cant be there i promise .
So i went to see a gig at the corner hotel over the weekend - it was virtually guaranteed to be awesome , Melbourne’s undeniably talented - The Red eyes (thered-eyes.com) and the enthralling The Black Seeds , (http://theblackseeds.com/) .
Now first i have to clarify two things i Will asses a show two ways - obviously the sound and the show , secondly ill say what i felt on a personnel level , my words are by no stretch law and heck don’t really cont for much so if i offend by no means is anything a personal attack but rather just my humble opinion.
The red eyes played first , i arrived about two songs into the set , the bar around three quarters full and people lined up to get in , it was clearly going to be a big night , my fellow gigger and i nestled our selves upfront a little to the right . These performers were clearly not fresh meat on the stage , with a warm and inviting presence and a clean and tight sound to boot , it was a pleasure on the senses made even by the fact it wasn’t to squishy yet , people danced and sang all the right ingredients for an awesome show . And then there was the problem -
I hate when indie bands who are aussie sing with a nasty American accent ……..and well i know im going to be slaughtered for saying it but i hate when a reggae band sings with a Jamaican accent ( unless there Jamaican or even half or a quarter is fine ) I dint know why i mean sure its props to the roots of the sounds your performing , but its also a little insulting to the your own accent isn’t it ??? i dunno maybe I’m totally wrong , so anyways point is the singer of the this really talented band does the accent thing , he is a kiwi with an amazing voice and accent of his own …. i dint understand why that’s not embraced more ???
But all in all if that’s my biggest flaw of a performance then really it nothing at all id defiantly recommend them , a slightly downsized version of the always amazing red eyes is a show i would pay for again :)
Then we had the black seeds , these guys have amazing presence on the stage , they make you feel like there’s only 20 people in the room and there playing for you , the lighting guy … whoever you are you rock man - sound was spot on ( well I’m no soundy but to me it was ace )
nice lengthy set , encore , gratitude to the audience and a lot of love . This all made up for us getting covered in beer and shoved around by peeps in the pit.
Overall its was a great spend of 30$ id do it again for sure , best conversation starter of the night ,” hi there you a kiwi ??”
i think i may have been one of the first to say no ..he looked a little disappointed
I would also like to thank alaina for getting the tix and arranging the night of for me -
Peace and light
